LOVING YOUR PLANT
Caladiums require medium light, whilst avoiding strong, direct sunlight which will burn its leaves. Keep this plant at a minimum of 18 degrees .
Caladiums should be watered when the surface of the soil feels dry. Keep the soil evenly moist.
This South American tropical plant requires a lot of humidity to imitate its native rainforest environment. A way of keeping the humidity high is to group several plants together or by sitting them on a tray of pebbles and water. Additionally, adding a humidifier to the room will do wonders. Keep this plant away from drafts and heating vents.
In Autumn your plant will become dormant and the leaves will begin to die back. Resist cutting back the dying leaves until fully spent (they require an average of 5 months rest to recharge and sprout again the following Spring). You can then either; lift the tubers, allowing them to dry and storing them in peat in a breathable bag; or leave them in the soil and suspend watering. In Spring, either plant out stored tubers or begin watering the potted tubers.
Make sure to clean all leaves with a dry cloth – dust can affect its absorption of light. You can feed your plant once a week during growing season with a balanced fertiliser. You won't need fertiliser during Winter.
Toxic for pets and children if eaten.
